Many people may not be familiar with his name and they wouldn’t recognize him walking down some street either. But surely many have heard his music. The Thurgau music producer Kurt Uenala is a Grammy Award nominated producer, programmer and songwriter. Kurt has made significant contributions to various projects and he was also involved in collaborations with renowned artists such as Depeche Mode, Erasure, Moby, Woodkid, the Raveonettes and many others.
Below you can see Kurt rehearsing with Depeche Mode as if he were the fourth member of the band.
Kurt also contributes his song ideas, but sometimes he has to take a step back. His suggestions are not always adopted one-to-one. “I have to expect that a song on the album will sound a little different than I originally imagined.”
It all started when Kurt left Switzerland to go to New York in 2000. There he successfully progressed in his work in the music industry for almost 20 years. Time when he met and worked with musicians like Dave Gahan.
Kurt’s love for dark electronic music found him spending more time in Gahan’s studio in Manhattan, where he started writing his own shadowy, melancholic songs for his project Null + Void, in which Gahan also features in some productions.
After finishing his work with Depeche Mode, Kurt moved in 2018 to Iceland, where he lives to this day working in his recording studio in Reykjavik.
At the moment Kurt is in Zürich for a few days, and tonight he will take part at the Film Award Ceremony in Zürich.
Surely many people would not recognize him walking down some street in Zürich or Thurgau, but his work speaks for him and is already part of music history.
