On a day like today, 15 years ago, on May 23 in 2010, Division Kent’s singer Andrea Bleuler passed away. She was the talented and charismatic singer of the Zurich electro synthpop duo Division Kent, one of the most promising Swiss bands in the mid-2000’s.

Since her youth, Andrea has been committed to various facets of art. She already published texts and reviews as a journalist while studying film science and literature at the University of Zurich.

As for music, the first inspirations came from bands like Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and New Order. In 2003 together with her husband Marco Neeser (ex-Swandive) they founded the electro project Division Kent. The name comes from an address in New York: Division Street / Kent Avenue, where both lived during a stay in America.

In 2006 they made their debut with the album Monsterproof, for which they received excellent reviews from the international press. The same with the follow-up work Gravity published in 2007, on which Depeche Mode producer Gareth Jones had also worked.

Various concerts followed before the duo finally took a baby break. Happiness seemed perfect, but after the birth of her daughter, Andrea was diagnosed with cancer. On the 23rd of May in 2010 the singer passed away to the disease.

On stage Andrea appeared enraptured and ethereal, and her discreet presence enveloped her with a mysterious, melancholic aura.
Her lyrics reflect her unique character, and also in her appearances as a singer she showed her great talent, as well as her love for art.
