Plague Pits Releases EP Transnecropolitan

Today, Bern-based duo Plague Pits released their 4th EP Transnecropolitan. A production with a message that reaffirms the band’s statement regarding the incapacity of human society towards its own species and its own environment. Inspired by the 80’s D.I.Y. electronic tape culture, Plague Pits play funeral music to accompany the misstep of man on earth, and the sound is as fascinating as the described situation is bleak.

Transnecropolitan is like an 80’s minimal-synth-wave soundtrack of a documentary that describes a decaying process of society in 7 episodes. This makes us remember what a band in the 70’s, also armed with synthesizers, pointed out: Society was no longer evolving, what we were experiencing was in fact de-evolution. That band was DEVO, short for De-evolution.

Transnecropolitan contains rhythms between moderato and allegro, ma non troppo, because the soundscapes are rather lugubre (melancholic) and con dolore (painful). The medium-fast tempo (+/- 120 bpm) allows an comfortable listening of the impressive minimal synths lines, which are very efficient (less is more) in reproducing the characteristics of the different plots of each of the 7 songs. And that contrast between the tracks is also achieved thanks to the versatile arrangements and the fusion with elements of Post-Punk, Coldwave and Industrial.

Since the 80’s, not much music like that has been produced in Switzerland. Suddenly, from out of nowhere, 4 brilliant EPs appear in a short time, and it looks like there is more music where it came from. We really hope so!
