Did you know that there is a Saxon Switzerland in Germany and another Saxon Switzerland in Martigny (VS)? Well, in the original Swiss Saxon, a community with just over 7 thousand inhabitants, there is a new band under the name Erosions. Actually there aren’t many local bands on the current scene that come from Valais, with the exception of Winter in Deutschland, they are also from Martigny. The point is that Erosions has released an album today with 9 songs called Another Darkside.
Erosions is made up of:
– David Liso – bass, voice, guitars, midi sequencing, sampling
– Alice Liso (14) – keyboard, backup vocals
– Matteo Liso (17) – guitar

The Lisos, united by blood and a taste for music
Already with the first song “Twice Around” with an intro in progression, an ambient-gaze-post-punk sound is manifested. Then it gives way to a more eighties Post-Punk as in “Allocations” and “Blinded by the Light” and more indiedreamgaze like in “Sunday Runaway” and “The Lake”.

The sounds and structures in the songs plus the instruments and their respective tunings develop within a sound spectrum that pleasantly evokes bands like The Cure, Cocteau Twins, R.E.M. among others. Especially in “Sepia and Gray” it’s inevitable not to think that Robert Smith is present. That song could easily be the B-side of “High” from The Cure’s album Wish. Likewise, the last song on the album “Volca” which, although it is a little more experimental, also presents a certain Cure’s pornography-esque touch, while Killing Joke appears as well in the soundscape. With “Advice” the feeling is as if the world is fine, and then “Another Darkside” lets you fall deeply and infinitely.
In general terms, the album presents a homogeneous sound with a soft post-punk style (cold&clean) that is quite melodic and with marked shoegaze, dreampop and indie influences. The side effect of chorus, delay and reverb is an inevitable feeling of 80s nostalgia. The melodies invite you to fly towards melancholy and then stay levitating above it.
In short, through Another Darkside Erosions presents a dreamy side of darkness without losing the feeling and density in the dark essence. It’s a great debut and hopefully the Lisos continue with the good work.
On the other hand, with songs like “Sepia and Gray” David Liso confirms that when he feels like it, he can produce songs à la The Cure or also Sisters of Mercy as with “Lesvs Rex” by Dynamo Stairs (David’s solo project).
