1 Song with 5 styles by 1 band with 5 scientists – It’s known that the founding members of Haneke Twins are doctors in physics and work as scientists at CERN in Genève, where the largest accelerator of particles in the world is located.
Now based on the complexity of today’s released single: “No Choice” the obligatory cliché would be to say that apparently the Haneke scientists have been experimenting a lot. With their instruments, strings and theories, they have been practicing with different accelerations of structures in space and times, like 5/4, 7/8, 11/8, or 13/8. After all, music is also physics (acceleration of sound particles).

The point is that “No Choice” presents a special combination of styles like no wave, math rock, post-punk, indie and alternative. The song effectively has all those styles very well fused into a progressive sound. And additionally to the complexity of math rock and its difficult rhythmic structures, Haneke Twins combines also another very eclectic style like no wave and its experimental sounds.

From the beginning of the band, Haneke Twins showed signs of this styles combination with the song “Stuck in a Loop” from the album Astronaut in 2020 and also with “Enough” Stories of Violence 2023. Now with “No Choice” the band has perfected the fusion and the trilogy is completed.

For those who are not familiar with the subject, and before listening to the song, do not think that your streaming is suddenly failing, it’s just math rock leaving the 4/4 rhythm that you are used to hearing. And if you perceive the no wave guitars that seem to play a different song, then you are entering complex sonic dimensions, which can take time to understand and appreciate.

Listen to the trilogy of the 5 styles below. But if you are more into classic post-punk, we rather recommend that you listen to these other 3 songs by HT: “Astronaut”, “River” and “Running Away”.
